just some more photos to keep you posted on the progress here. Been gluing hundreds og little papershapes together, and tomorrow I will try and electroform them, which means adding a thin layer og copper to the surface.. not sure if it will work on these complicated structures though.. Add Comment my head is exploding these days with ideas and new work is just pouring out. I am simulatneously working on about 5 differerent lines of work and just time will show if I can actually pull this off. Right now I am putting together different 3d diorama panels with hundreds of small details inside. It is a lengthy process since I have to work on each layer to make it 3d, but hey, funfunfun! Phew! After long nights, lots of coffee and numb buttocks I can now declare my new shop for OPEN! Please let me know if there are some wrong links etc, there are some thousand small details in such a page, so there´s bound to be some mistakes somewhere. I am quite pround as I have done it all myself, the designing, setup, layout,-the lot The adress is http://kgd-shop.weebly.com This year the annual fundraising done by the NRK (national Norwegian broadcaster) will this year go to Norwegian People´s Aid and their work with practical landmine and cluster clearance, and their political advocacy work against these wapons. They are central participants in the work to develop and implement ban treaties against both landmines and cluster munitions. I will be making a big necklace for one of the presenters, Haddy N´jie which will be actioned away during the show. It is such an honour to be able to contribute with my skills in this important cause, and I hope everyone will contribute with donations! The necklace is made in silver with 4 big black pearls and some smaller black ones, the surface has been roughed up with different drill-bits and then oxidized. I will keep track of the process on my facebook-page Remember to have cash ready at 23rd of October! After working looong evenings and nights for a long time I am in the final stage of testing my shop before officially opening in to the public. It has been great fun, but very late in the process I realized I could copy designs and links from page to page.. ggrr. So stay tuned, 1st of october is the big day! It will be possible to buy the whole Secret Garden collection, Bubbles and the new 20 ltd edition of cufflinks. This weekend I have been to a stone-sculpture course in Bohuslan, Sweden, with sculptress Annika Löb Mossberg as a teacher. It was great fun, lots of hard work, sore muscles and some nice machines to work with as well as the old chisel and hammer. We worked on granite, which is the local stone, much used in old harbours etc, and little did I know HOW HARD is it to work in that stone! I am quite in awe for everyone and anyone who chooses this as their material. I will never be able to see a sculpture again without thinking about the month and years used to craft it. I used much of Friday and Saturday cursing, but then on Sunday I suddenly saw the light and it turned into fun. KKV is a centre for artists, with an emphasis on stone, but they also have facilities for textiles, ironwork, they also have a great ecological café, Olivia and some cool . Anyone can rent space there and there are great climbing facilities in the area as well. Since I have so many new products and lots of ideas for smaller and cheaper x-mas gifts, I will be at the designer´s X-mas market 3.and 4th of December at DoGA in Oslo. I will sell Bubbles and Secret Garden. After almost going nuts from all the sawing and filing of Secret Garden I decided to find out whether someone could help me out with this. I struck luck immideately, and found www.kmg.no; Karl M gustavsens Stansefabrikk, and old factory with all kind of modern equipment for punching out shapes and all kinds of metal workshop-machines. They decided that secret garden was too intricate for punching out, but that threadcutting would be ideal. Threadcutting is a thin wire which cuts with electricity, and it can cut up to 5 cm thick material at the time. It takes hours, but the result is amazing and there is no filing, just chuck it in the tumbler. So the other day i got back 50 sheets of silver which had been cut with all the shapes I need for Secret Garden before I go to the Jewellery fair in Copenhagen. I love industry! Since I have a dark background from furniture-design some ten years ago or so, I always end up with the bigger building projects in our house. Last one out was this huge shelf, inspired by a smaller shelf made by my friend Vera Micaelsen and some great ones in my favourite bookstore; Tronsmo. I have eventually turned the blind eye and the deaf ear to the purists who are against screws in furniture, and made it in one day. Find out how high and deep you want the different shelves to be, (remember that 60 cm span without support is maximum) and go to your local DIY store and get them to cut everything up for you. Then go home and have fun! I used wooden plugs, pva-glue and screws. Then it was sanding down and laquer. Painted osm eof them white to lighten up the impression of the shelf, an These day I am working like mad to finish everything before I am off to Copenhagen, and today I have devoted myself to make a bunch of my Bubbles. The little cloudshapes which are hollow. Here are some picts from the process, it is actually a lot of fun because it is rather fast, in terms of jewellerymaking that is.. |
